Named after the town of Prins Albert in the Cape, the area was originally part the Meyer family’s Elandsfontein farm situated along the Natalspruit river. The first family (the Van der Merwes) settled here in 1903. The older suburbs being Alberton North, New Redruth, and New Market. The Alberton industrial area, Alrode, was established in 1943, starting with CJ Fuchs, still trading today as Fuchsware. Alrode is a growing area for business and industry, ranging from small owner run operations through to the extensive South African Breweries complex which produces 7 million hectolitres of beer a year.
Alberton is the ideal place to live. It borders on the major freeways of R59, N3, and the N12, with traffic volumes being significantly lower than many of the Gauteng freeway routes. Public transport networks comprise rail, bus and taxi. Travelling time to the OR Tambo International Airport and the Johannesburg CBD is a short 20 minutes. In the 1980’s the Alberton CBD was converted into the Boulevard. Alberton falls within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality together with Germiston, Edenvale and Bedfordview.
Alberton property provides a spread of residential property ranging from affordable areas (e.g.: Alberton North) to upper end areas (e.g.: Meyerdal). The area offers a slice of all accommodation that Johannesburg South property can offer – flats, townhouses, clusters, houses, secure estates and an eco-estate.
